Advances in computer, visual display, motion and force cueing and other technologies in the past two decades have had a dramatic effect on the design and use of simulation technology in aviation and other fields. The effective use of technology in training, safety investigation, engineering and scientific research requires an understanding of its capabilities and limitations.
In sum, based on this literature review, it appears that simulation training can be a useful component of an overall use of force instructional program for officers in Canadian police agencies. However, for use of force simulation training to reach its full potential, several important changes to the current training regime must be implemented.
